[Women's Outdoor Track and Field] Grand View repeats as Heart Outdoor Track and Field ChampionsPublished by
OSKALOOSA, Iowa- Grand View used a strong overall performance in the throwing events to win its second-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Saturday afternoon at the Lacey Complex.COMPLETE RESULTS The Vikings scored 58 points in the four throwing events to anchor its winning total of 149 points. MidAmerica Nazarene finished second with 145 points, while Clarke (92), Benedictine (89) and Graceland (75) rounded out the top five. Grand View recorded 14 points in the shot put, 19 points in the discus, 23 points in the hammer and two points in the javelin. The Vikings also tallied 18 points in the 5,000m race walk and captured the 4x800m relay title to help defend its team title. Taylor Wells (SR/Des Moines, Iowa) was able to defend her discus title from last year, picking up a winner's medal for the second-straight campaign with mark of 43.34m. Wells also hit the NAIA "B" standard in hammer, earning second with a mark of 48.06m. Erin Wenzel (JR/Clinton, Iowa), Katie Roberts (SR/Ankeny, Iowa), Bakita Kak, and Natalie Potts (SR/Altoona, Iowa) earned the 4x800m relay medal with a time of 9:52.39. Other top 3 finishes for the Vikings included – Two weeks of competition remain to qualify for the 2017 NAIA Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship, May 25-27 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
