[Men's Cross Country] Viking Men Third, Brown Qualifies for Nationals at MCC Championships

The Viking cross country teams competed at the MCC Championships today at Jones Park in Cedar Rapids.

The Viking men finished third overall with 79 team points. Mount Mercy took first place with 43 and St. Ambrose was runner-up with 45 points.

The winning team, as well as the top five individuals (not on first place team), automatically qualified for the NAIA Championships. The top seven individuals earned MCC All-Conference honors and those who placed 8-15 received MCC Honorable Mention recognition.

GV senior Kevin Brown (Hesperia, Calif.) finished sixth overall to qualify for the 2013 NAIA Championships and earn All-Conference honors. Brown finished the 8k race in a time of 28:29.

Senior Justin Welsh (Altoona, Iowa) and sophomore Kennedy Kiprop (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) finished 14th and 15th respectively and earned MCC Honorable Mention Honors.

Brown will compete at the NAIA Championships November 23 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas.
